City of Arts and Science of Valencia


City of Arts and Science of Valencia is one of the most visited places because it's not about Baroque, Renaissance, Gothic or any other ancient style of architecture; it's a 22nd century architecture, an educational and entertainment complex, a place that you have to see because it will transport you to the future, not to the past.
The main structures were designed by Santiago Calatrava as a spectacular display of architecture with impressive interactive leisure attractions. The City of Arts and Science of Valencia is a little city (more than seven kilometers) to discover by promenading, in fact a visit to this complex is completely free, unless you want to explore it inside and visit the museum and entertainment areas inside each one has a price.
You don't have to be an opera fanatic or a science boffin to enjoy a visit to the city of Arts and Science, besides the great attractions that it hosts you'll see attractive swimming pools and places where one can relax and walk; tourists agree that no pictures will do it justice so it's a place that you must visit at least one in lifetime.
The city of Arts and Science is constituted by the following complexes:
- L'Hemisfèric: IMAX Movie Theater and Planetarium with educational and visually stunning character presentations.
- El Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe: Museum of applied science with ultra-interactive science material.
- L'Umbracle: A luxurious garden for walking with many species of plants.
- L'Oceanogràfic: The biggest Marine Park and Aquarium in Europe.
- El Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía: It was destined to opera and the performing arts in its 4 distinct auditoriums, each one for a kind of stage art.

L´Hemisfèric
L´Hemisfèric is a splendid building with the shape of an eye and the cover can be opened and closed. This complex has a Laserium, Planetarium and IMAX cinema (more than 900 square meters of screen) in which impressive films are displayed such as Dinosaurios Alive that follows the steps of paleontologists of the American Museum of Natural History; Wild Ocean that examines the effects of global warming and the migration of a large number of living beings in search of food, Hubble that shows the five spacewalks by astronauts and images of the space, other films are: Mystery of the Nile, Magic Journey to Africa, Arabia, and Amazonas.

It's a stroll, relaxing and stunning at the same time; you may find beautiful places from which you can get some views of all the buildings, lakes, walkways, and landscaped areas. It’s the entrance to the city with 55 arcs fixed and 54 floating arcs, with creeper plants surrounding it; you'll see many sculptures like an open-air museum and a huge garden with different plants that vary according to the season.

It's considered the largest aquarium in Europe where visitors can get to know at first hand the behavior and way of life of over 45,000 individuals of 500 different species of the sea world. L´Oceanogràfic is an impressive complex conceived as a nature reserve for protected animal and plant species, and a scientific center for research programs.
It is unique around the world because of its dimensions and design, and mainly for the important biological collection that exhibits, L´Oceanografic permits us to know closely the behavior of several animals such as dolphins, sealions, seals, sharks and other species; It is a place that promotes the passion for the marine world and the need of preserve it.
L´Oceanogràfic opened in 2003 and till now more than 10 million people had visited its installations; visitors can enjoy unforgettable experiences near the most exotic species from all over the world from different marine ecosystems.
